Star of the Show

This free PDF is a just a teaser to get you interested in doing something with newspaper. "Star of the Show" is a good opening effect because it's quick, humorous and surprising. In fact, I used it to open when I was the master of ceremonies on the opening show at the I.B.M./S.A.M. Combined Convention in 2017. I included a photo on the Welcome Page here on my website (check it out!).

"Star of the Show" is the first chapter in The Book, and it's the opening effect in my newspaper act (Chapter 9 in The Book). That means I use it a lot, but usually not as the opening effect for my show. It gets its chance later. (My normal opening effect is the "Hello Trick," Chapter 17 in The Book.) But sometimes "Star of the Show" is the very perfect opener for everything, as it was to open the I.B.M./S.A.M. Convention in Louisville.

"Star of the Show" isn't limited to newspapers. When the opportunity presents itself, I tear a sheet from a flip chart in the room, and do The Star impromptu with flip chart paper. That's not as elegant a star as one pre-folded using a template, but once you know the proper angles, it's very doable.
